I'm gonna be running a QVC 15" TC-3K for home audio use and want to give it the most it can properly handle. I know it can take 1400 pretty easily....is 1800-2200rms pushing it too much? What's the most you would give it? Need this sucker to last a while, dont want to be meltin the coil. thanks

ive never felt comfortable giving mine more than 2200... but thats just me

i think around 2000 should be good enough since 3hp denotes its power handling //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Is that true? That seems an extremely odd way of denoting a speaker, or its power handling. How many people convert watts to HP (or vice versa) these days? I thought 3hp was a representation of its motor/BL strength.

3hp on the motor doesnt make sense since the power rating is determined by the VC? maybe im wrong though, who knows. either way i guess ill probably throw 1800 to it if 2000's enough....700 bucks for a crown amp that'll do that at 6 ohms. d@mn the QVC. other option was 1200 for 500 bucks. but i rather have the extra headroom and give it what it needs.

dcole you've never run more than 2200 to it, but what do you run to it daily?

true, and after looking at TSP along with enclosure, application, etc....1800 would probably be my limit on it. thanks for the help guys.

I don't think you'd EVER need that much headroom for home audio use, even with that sub. You'd be surpised at what 500 watts rms in a room can do. I would go with half of what you originally want.

ill probably stick with 1800 or so....although its not exactly suited for the job...there's a possibility it could destined for a little PA use depending on how tight money's gonna be.

if it were strictly for home audio though, then yes around 1000 would probably be just fine.
