How long does a Sub Last?

Thanks for all the help guys. I will be going to check out the setup today. What is re-coning? I have never heard of that. And why cant you do it with a JL?
Also, do you guys think the precision amp is fine? Think its worth it to buy a better amp later on?

which model ppi is it?

Re-coning is when you replace all the "moving" part's of a subwoofer such as the cone, coil, spider, lead wires, and spider's with new part's. This can be done with JL but it tends to be rather expensive so it just isn't worth it. When you go to check it out just inspect the subwoofers and amp to see what type of condition they are in and if it's in a pretty decent condition ask to check the coil's with a DMM to make sure nothing is damaged and push down on the center of the subwoofers to see how much force it take's and to see if you can hear any scratching noises.

I still think $375 would be a pretty good price for 2 W6's in good shape and a precision power amp especially if it's one of their older amp's. It should be a pretty good sounding setup if he has it in a halfway decent enclosure.

yeah if its an oldschool ppi amp of decent size it is definitely worth the money for that setup. However it sounds like you don't really need or want that much bass and i'm sure for less than 375 you could buy a brand new single sub, amp, and make or buy a box that would suit your needs.

OK guys. There was a big misunderstanding with my friend. He aparently has no idea what is what. They are two 10" W0s in a JL PORTED enclosure. I gave him $280.

Heres the amp:

Also, i took the woofers out of the enclosure to check everything out. Cleaned them up a bit. They look like theyre in pretty good shape. not any kind of cracking on anyhting. Theyre also DVC. Didnt expect that. Didnt even think JL offered the W0s as a Dual voice coil. I had singles before.

If i wire each woofers coils in series with itself than wire the two woofers in parallel to the amp, will this give me a 4 ohm load?

w0s run 50 a piece tops!! usually 60 a pair.. but the amp is nice.. not really a good deal as it was a friend but not a bad deal.. Main reason I don't like selling to friends though as I can get more from other people and feel bad if i took them

Do you think a Precision Power amp was giving them a clean signal? Not sure of the headunit he was using or the wiring, but he seems to know a bit about this stuff. I do as well, but i havnt had a subwoofer setup in my own car for a while now. I had 2 10" W0s in a ported enclosure with a Alpine "V-power" amp in an old car. sounded great. My friend is selling a very large Kicker setup for $500, but its not only overkill, its heavy as hell, and I like 10s.
If you had w0s then you will love these w6s. This is not too bad of a deal. So if he will break $325 or $350 tho. Just for fun. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
