How long does a Sub Last?

Hello. I am new here. I am considering buying a setup off of a friend for my 09 Pontiac G8. He has two 10" JL W6s in a sealed box with a Precision Power amplifier. He is only asking $375. I'm a little unsure though because the setup is nearly 3 years old. Is this too old for Subwoofers? Some have told me yes, and that I'd be better off buying new.

Thanks for any help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do you think a Precision Power amp was giving them a clean signal? Not sure of the headunit he was using or the wiring, but he seems to know a bit about this stuff. I do as well, but i havnt had a subwoofer setup in my own car for a while now. I had 2 10" W0s in a ported enclosure with a Alpine "V-power" amp in an old car. sounded great. My friend is selling a very large Kicker setup for $500, but its not only overkill, its heavy as hell, and I like 10s.

let me clarify that I am not interested in a lot of bass. But my system needs help in my car. The G8 was said to have an "awesome" sound system in various reviews, but the factory 8" subs are just not quite enough. Theyre free-air subs, mounted in the rear deck. I htought about just replacing them with better 8s hooked to the factory amp, but that would cost me nearly $300 for new 8s. I understand that two 10" W6s could be A LOT of bass, but i figure i could just keep them turned way down and at least i know i'll have a lot more no matter what. I'm not sure how my friends 12" kicker setup would really perform at very low levels. two 12" CVRs in a Kicker ported box with a Kicker 1000 watt mono amp.

i wouldnt really say a sub can get old ....over time subs can get a looser suspension but fortunately we have the options of recones if it gets that bad or the sub was abused. unless its a JL.............then your screwed on recones

if the woofer has not been abused 3years is nothing. this woofer is over 11years old and is good as new

Thanks for all the help guys. I will be going to check out the setup today. What is re-coning? I have never heard of that. And why cant you do it with a JL?

Also, do you guys think the precision amp is fine? Think its worth it to buy a better amp later on?
