how important is amp tuning?

How important is amp tuning, is it more important than head unit tuning? Or should they both be tuned?

Lets say i have these settings on the head unit:

Head unit

Mid range- 500,1k,2k

high- 2k,8k,10k,12k

low- 40,80,100

^^^ what should those frequencies be tuned too, i have mine set at 500 for mid range, 12k for highs, and 40 for lows. Is that about right for those frequencies to sound the best?

And amp tuning, is it important to set your HPF and stuff on the amp too, or does the head unit settings make up for that?

i still have a somewhat distorted sound at high volumes that i need to get rid of and i think it has to do with the crossover points or EQ somewhere from my amp or head unit tuning be wrong.

Do you have stock speakers?

Bring your Mids up to 1k, your highs down to 10k or 8k, and the sub up to 100.

is that where those frequencies play the most naturally? I always though mids were supposed to be around 500, i guess i was wrong.

I just don't understand tuning frequencies and the eq curves just make it even more hard to get the perfect sound. How do you properly set your EQ curves?
