i ALWAYs use the chassic ground that comes with Alpine units (the only headunits i use) i either find a screw inside the dash that is in grounded metal already or i create a ground with a sheet metal screw

Have always used the pre existing vehicle harness (never any issues)...installed my KDC-X991 this morning and I now have a tiny bit of Alt. whine...so I'll be redoing the ground to chassis in the very near future.

Morgans432...how's the HU?

your best bet is to ground the deck at the same spot you grounded your amps at....especially if your having noise issues.
Would be a bit of a problem. Deck is up front, amps are grounded wayyyyy out back. Trying not gonna run it all the way back, i'd have to tear my whole car apart, which is a whole lot for a little ground.

I grounded mine on the side by the door where all of my fuses are. I'm sure you can run it into the engine bay and ground it out there if you needed. you would have to crimp more wire onto the existing to make it reach.

Amps are grounded VERY well...star washers and bolts...even dremeled the paint from both sides.

Ground issue came in to play with the new HU install this morning...it's very faint...may even be that my alternator was working overtime since I had the dome lights on for an hour while I was playing...has happened before and then went away on it's own.
