How do you fiberglass brahs get your name out there?

Absolutely possible. The problem you will have is competing with those who know fabrcation and sound. You look like you have some skills, but if I was a potential customer I would be looking at the 4 6x9s and saying WTF is that? just my $0.02

what's your definition of successful? making a living to replace your job, that takes a lot. being a former business owner I can tell you what I am doing to get back to business owner status. first off it's not the job you do, it's the people that you do the job for. are those people just looking for a deal or are they networked and can lead to new business, are they willing to pay? I know plenty of shops that failed b/c they cannot identify this especially amongst their younger clients. Do you have certifications to justify your pricing? will you be suppling the products, whether it be the install products or the actually products? if you are, are you making money off the sale of the product alone? is your product and/or service good enough to show off and with stand the criticism of the real pro's?

Since I'm getting back into the industry, here's some things I'm doing to ensure I'm successful. FYI, have you noticed that i'm good seller on here and some other sites for install products.

1. I have started to network with some locals that are on here

2. Done a little work for people that are on the forum

3. Ensure that I have a good quality product that I can make money on, on top of the service if offered

4. Studying to get my MECP Certification (just to learn industry standards and have documentation to show I can do the work)

5. Finish up my own cars with a nice quality install (you would never trust a mechanic who's car broke down on the way to the job or was a rust bucket)

6. Figure out what is not only a reasonable price to charge but is also a profitable price to charge

7. Learning new install methods and how to install some of the newer technology items (Bluetooth, SAT, iPod, etc..)

Especially retarded in his car, because the trunk is sealed off from the cab. Fail...

very possible, i do it. Just as a side job/fun. Local shops piss me off so I like taking their customers
Yeah, i don't want it to be anything serious. Just maybe do a few people's installs that i know, maybe get my name out a bit, and go from there. The thing is, i will beat anyone elses price by 30%, i know the work is time consuming as hell but i don't believe in a simple fiber glass build costing 500+ dollars.

Just wondering if anyone had experience or not, and how they got there name out there.

Well if you did it for a living you would!

Problem with people is that they think that by going to local shops they're getting the best deals, service, and equipment but the dam newbs dont know that people like you could do a much cheaper and better job. They always go mainstream basically. Im just saying this because i once went into a shop where half the employees didnt know what the hell a big 3 upgrade was. I guess advertise on craigslist or something haha

Didn't read most of the replies but the 2 keys to success are:

-Turning a car (possibly your car) into a demo car to showcase your talents. Has to sound good and look GREAT.

-When you do work for people, put your emblem, logo, signature, something in it. If people do not like the idea at first, offer disoucnts for this type of advertising.

Good luck.

The chances of getting a hack is much higher on CL or other avenues like that. With shops if you do a little research you have some recourse typically.
