how do power car amp in a house

If you sporadically used them, then the battery charger would work...

The better way would be to either buy an external 12VDC supply (look on Ebay for Astron or other supplies) or kludge together something with a computer PSU...

Because if you used it often, you might not be able to charge the batteries fast enough to keep up.

What kind of batteries are we talking about here? They had better be gel cells or SLA (sealed lead acids)...

This is a bi-amped sound system involving two 100 watt amps powered by a modified AT PSU I bought for $10. Req's site (forget the link) has a tutorial to modify them into workable 12v power supplies. This would probably be the best / cheapest way to create power for car amps

And it sounds surprisingly good, too!

To the original poster - don't use a regular car battery in home, unless you like holes in your carpet or flooring...also the hydrogen that's vented by the battery into your house probably isn't such a good thing to have.

Use a SLA, or don't use one at all.

kludge eh? so what are you trying to say? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

glad im helping people with my 'adventures'

http://www.r3q.net

the tutorial is under the 'project logs' section, and "can car audio go home?" but again im not liable if you kill\hurt\touch yourself - and you can only use a few hundred watts from EACH powersupply (only ~15 amp draw)

real 12vDC powersupplies (like jack listed) are mad expensive. and so are battery chargers+batteries.

You weren't the first to come up with that idea, you know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The way I saw it done involved putting power resistors on the +5V regulated circuit, so that the voltage would stay more or less constant...gives the regulator something to, well, regulate.

And dedicated 12VDC bench supplies aren't that expensive as long as you stay under 30 amps. Even decent 50A used supplies can be had for a deal from time to time.

Yeah I know the thread is three years old...just looking for the tutorial req made on converting computer PSU's to power stuff inside the house...but the link is dead...do you still have this available req?
