How do I get movies on to my iPod?

Without buying them from the iTunes store first. Can I just rip them like I would a CD or no?

Also what is a good (preferably free) DVD decoder for watching DVD's on my laptop. I have this VLC media player I found when searching but it kind of sucks.

Itune should convert it, or you need to convert the video yourself.

i downloaded mines from limewire pro then when i installed itunes they automatically loaded on itunes,well some did not all..then you have to convert them before putting them in ipod if you wana hear the sound if you dont then you will just see the picture..if you go on apples website and click discussion theres a section for itunes theres plenty of info there..i myself found it to be a pain in the *** i gave my ipod away for free im gona get a creative labs i think its called..i read its much better then ipod..

Pain in the *** or not, I don't think I will give it away. It was a gift and a nice one at that. 30GB HD and a color screen is pretty cool in the plam of your hand.
