How difficult will installing my new HU be?

maybe a .5

i just put a new head unit in, swapped out my pioneer deh-p8000r for an alpine 7894

took me 10 minutes to redo the harness, take apart my dash, throw it in and set the head unit...

Well, I'll be replacing an aftermarket HU that my dad installed several years ago.

Apparently he didn't know about wiring harnesses, so he cut the factory one out and had to splice/crimp/whatever the wires from the aftermarket unit to the wires coming from the vehicle. So I'm screwed.

Not really. Extend the wires a little bit so you have something to work with - trying to screw around in a dash where the wires have been cut and now have zero slack isn't fun at all.

Find the stock vehicle color codes (http://www.the12volt.com or many others), match them to the colors on your head unit harness (instruction manual will tell you what color is for what, don't always assume yellow goes to yellow and red goes to red).
