How can I make my bass louder/harder?

Without buying a new amp or sub, what adjustment can I make to my headunit/sub amp to make the bass louder/harder? I have a Kicker CVR12 sub, Quantum Audio QSA1000 amp, Alpine 9884 headunit, and an epicenter. The bass on the headunit is at 0 and 80hz. The gain is adjusted on the amp with the bass boost on 0. Any adjustments I can make to make the bass louder/harder? Thanks..Also, does having the treble up on the headunit take away from the bass?

first, set gains properly following the gain setting tutorial in the amplifier consolidated sticky posts thread. After that have built or build a ported box that has more port area and is tuned lower
