How Big was my last speaker box?

My last speaker box was 15.5 in Height and 31.5 in. Wide and 17 in. Deep. How big was that box. I've always thought it was 3 cubes but when i tried this formula on the internet that converts inches to cubic feet I ended up with like 4.8 cubic feet or something similar to that? Did I so something wrong?

if its external then your looking at 3.77 cu ft

the formula for external is to subtrad 1.5(assuming the wood is .75") from each dim.

than do (HxWxL)/1728

I don't want my next box over 15 inches tall because at 15.5 I had to wiggle and wedge my box into my trunk. What kind of dementions do I want to create if I want my next both to be the same size but 15 inches high instead of 15.5? Its for a single 15" by the way this new box.

I got my messed up number because i didn't subtract 1.5 from any of the demensions. 3.7 cubes should be good for the Subduction right? since it will be like 3.5 cubes after sub displacement. They recommend atleast 2.5 cubes fully stuffed.

Yeah that would hit me just right since the sub has 5.8 Litres of displacement. Going to be a fun sub to play with next weekend. Can't wait til my amp gets here tuesday.
