I see what you are saying with how it would work for a flat ceiling.
Google says:

Your google quote is what I was saying is the correct method and intended use.

Also, it shouldnt matter the shape of the celing...its still going to circulate correctly. You might even save some money if you reverse the direction...your A/C may not have to work as hard.

 
i've never noticed a difference either way. i have mine blowing up only because it blows my paper work around when blowing down on high. as far as temp. goes, i can tell no difference.
