so today on the way to work i listened to some music at a pretty loud consistent volume. when i got to work i decided to see how hot my amps get. the re 12.1 was warm easy to the touch. the DD S4 was very hot. i have the gains set pretty conservitivly on both 1/2 ch and 3/4 ch. why would it be getting so hot ?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

The ground is very important on good amps...since your car is a unibody....which most cars are these days...It means there is no frame for a solid ground in the trunk....Amps need as strong a hot as a ground....If you haven't already you'll need to run a 4 ga pos and a 4 ga. neg from the main battery back and beef up under hood factory grounds.....Also on the rear chs bridged it doesn't need to go below 3 ohms...I run the same amp in my 07 Focus ST and play it for hours with no major heat issues....I did all I listed above...though....

lower than stable ohms?
nope 4ohm.

what kinda electrical do you have?
stock battery/alt. 4ga to 8ga dist block.

;3514474']Was it at an acceptable volume? I know of some people who listen to their music god-awfully loud sometimes so I wouldn't doubt their amps can get quite hot..
24 on an alpine HU.

Bad ground?
didn't think of that. maybe. i'll have to check later. could also be inefficient door panel, right?

thanks Dave. i'll put that on my "things to do" list..hehe

lol, its called a heatsink. if its getting hot its doing its job.
so if we know that the heatsink works, does that allow us to keep pushing the amp harder, keeping it steady, or turning it down?

thanks for pointing out the obvious point dexter.
