Ok, I have been playing (tuning) with my stereo for the last month or so after getting things put together. I got what I thought was a "custom box" at 35hz from a guy I thought knew his stuff pretty well. The box sounds like @$$!. So, I need some help. I have run WinISD for an infinity Perfect DVQ 10" sub, and I get some odd numbers that I hope someone will quantify for me. In a sealed box, it's giving me .75-1 cf. In a vented, it's giving me some crazy-@$$ numbers. Either I'm using it wrong, or I'm using it wrong. Can someone help? I'll post the stats from the T&S if it helps.

For whatever reason, I get s screwy box size and an even screwier port size. I'm looking for 28-30hz tuning on it for SQL, unless someone suggests differently here.

Regardless of your answer....check your wiring. I know its a played out reply, but its usually a culprit. If you wired it wrong, your getting low output and it could sound bad. If you are running dual subs, you may have put one out of phase. Easily KILLS the output and sounds shitty.

It's a single 10, wiring is good by 2 sources double checking it for me. I just figured out the box dimensions, but now the port length is boggling me.

how much power to the amp, and how did you set your gains.

I know I'm on a different area than everyone else, but we have some really excellent box experts here....so I might as well go with what I'm good with.

If it's the box, they are going to figure it out....if it ends up being ok, at least we have started looking at the power and wiring.

The Xmax is 16.75mm....what you read was the diameter

It's running off of a RF T4002 bridged at 2 ohms. It does 512 mono at 4 ohms. Power was the first thing I checked, not an issue. then I checked the sub wiring as stated before.

The speaker sits in the back of my trailblazer, so space is not really an issue for me, since it's a 10". I gave the current box back, it was a prefab box used for memphis speakers (some spider emblem on the connector ports). It's sitting in a sealed box for now till I get to the guy that made the box for me.

Gains were set at half, then as I tuned, the best response I got was at 3/4...and it still sounded bad.

Crossovers were controlled from the deck, got the best response at 160hz in the back with 125 in the components.

I also am thinking I need it tuned higher, considering what I didn't hear from my sub with the other box. I don't need the low rumble, but I do want the higher range of midbass as it transfers to my comps. I am open to suggestions.

I listen mainly to Gospel, Rock...and Enya.

Just measure the port opening and measure any other parts of the port inside and draw it out on a piece of paper and put some geometry to work and let us know the port length, port area, and net enternal volume.

And from the sounds of things you may want to look into just a sealed enclosure..

Times 1,000,000! You are listening to very tight quick bass and a bit more classical. Ported is not the best option here. Sealed will be less output but more accurate.

So it sounds as though you adjusted the gains by ear (which is totally fine) but do you have a DMM? If so, perhaps checking that. If you're wanting to run say 700watts at 2ohms just plug it into the formula and then check it against what the amp is doing. You could have a lower voltage output on the HU or even a messed up RCA.

Sqrt(700*2)=37.42

I'm just assuming that you want to be at 700 rms. Also, does it sound better sealed?

To be honest, I would like a little more output even though it sounds better in the sealed box. However, I have come to understand that I can only have one or the other, unless I go with a different setup /subwoofer, or even increasing in size. THe thing is that it sits in the back of a trailblazer, so I know I'm getting some sound boost from that too. Any suggestions on all that? I'm running 400 RMS in the sub, 512+ from the amp at 2 ohms.
