I got my setup installed tonight and set it up.

re srx 15, 3.5cuft ported 30hz, alpine mrp-m650 @ 2 ohms.

Needless to say I was coming from a single 10" P1. I turned the gains to about half ( my sony deck has puss preouts, like I mean 2v at clipping I sware ) so this was way the **** down. I listen at -10db on sub channel and its sounding boomy and loud tho. The 15" moves so much air just by barely moving that it overwhelms the front stage at low volumes. ANYWAYS.

I turned it up slowly, and started hearing mad distortion etc, thinking **** im bottoming out the woofer. Pop trunk and sub is barely trying ( Imo, maybe it is moving alot I dont know, id have to see an re srx 15 video, or I can shoot one and you guys can let me know how hard its trying? ).

I know this setup doesnt compare to most of you but for me it is ridiculously loud, and I matted the pieces on the trunk even, and the bumper sounds like its going to fall off asap.

I think even though it sounds so bad in the cab when I turn up the deck sub gain, ( not the amp gain still at half ) is because everything is flexing, because when I pop the trunk the sub is barely trying. Is this possible or am I infact bottoming out the sub? It says 18mm xmax so I am thinking it isnt bottoming out. What should I do?

What should I do?
2 things:

Provide cliffs, though I read it all. Some might not.

Clarify your question(s).

Edit: I didn't see any information on the amp. Brand, model? Also, you might have to put a vid. As I said, I cannot understand what you're trying to ask.

I just asked you for the model and brand of the amp.
It's probably just you listening to your car rattle. Open the trunk with it running and see if you still hear it. Eh.
Yeah I dont hear it with the trunk open.

I have listed the model for the amp twice now how have you missed it?

Alpine Mrp-M650

Yeah, thanks for the ninja edit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Hmm. Probably just your car rattling. Get some deadener if you want. If you don't think it is, make a vid.

Thanks ok. Ill make a video tommorow if I can, and put it up on youtube.

Car is in good condition surprisingly for a 1997, that has been through Canadian winters.

If you're not familiar with setting your gains by ear then you need to use a DMM if an oscilloscope isn't available.

Also, are you using bass boost on the amp? What is your SSF set to? What is your LPF set to?

Yeh, I am curious as to what the crossover and bass boost are set too. Jacking your bass boost up can be as bad, if not worse than running your gain too high.

I NEVER EVER!!! Run any bass boost, I am aware it is horrible and destroys SQ ( punchy sound from an over eq'd freq) Subsonic is at 20hz, and LPF at 75

And like I said the gain is still below where it should be for this deck. On the markings it is below 2v, and my deck does not output 2v even on its best day.

turn the gains down.

put the hu sub level thats at -10 up all the way up.

turn your bass eq (ussually right next to the mid and/or treble) a click or two above the lowest it can go (if it goes to -7, put it at -5 or -4).

If there is some kind of EQ boost option on the HU put it on.

Turn the HU volume about up to 80%

make sure all amp bass boost is off. make sure you know how to set the low pass filter so it doesnt sound like ****

no bass boost

gradually bring the gain up until you hit a plateau on the output. youll see that as you bring the gain up it gets progressively louder and at a certain point you gain very very little increase although the knob is still turning. You want to get the output right to the start of the plateau and not any louder. Play with the gain knob a lil and you'll be able to get a sense for the amp and at what point its putting out the most it can before distorting.

if you can find a line driver used for 25-30 bucks that's a great investment.

hope this helps

Wow!! Just caught the sub out set at -10....... What the? I thought that was -setting for his lows on the HU eq. Yeh, if your deck is only putting out 2v, how are you even getting a signal at -10 without having the gain all the way up? I run my lows on my eq at about -4 (out of -10) and my sub out is at +6 (all the way up). This keeps the lows out of my door speakers and allows me to minimize the use of the gain on the sub amp.
