Im Da *** Man!!!
so im listening to my system today on way home from school. half way home i smell something burning so i turn off the sub from my h/u. i get home unscrew the sub and smoke pours out of the enclosure. the sub isnt blown but the amp has the protect light on. what the hell happened, worked one minute, stopped the next. please help me.

Yeah, sounds like you fried your coils, when they unwind they can short out and create a very low load, causing your amp to go into protect.

You'd better pray that's all the damage you did. Unless you just have all kinds of money for new stuff.

ideally the fuse at the battery should pop before enough current can be drawn through your amp to smoke it, but if your fuse was too big you likely let the magic smoke out of your amp- that's bad (like you hadn't figured that out) You might check your power wire for any damaged casing that may have caused a short to ground. I'm afraid I'm not a lot of help- I've never actually killed a sub or an amp. I thought I popped something in my amp today because my left door speakers stopped working, but the spade connector had come off the woofer and that fixed it.
