holy shift

It would devastate our economy as well.
It's already going to hurt our economy. It's going to hurt the world's economy...

I'd be more worried about the thousands that will die, or the hundreds of thousands that will live but get terrible cancer from the radiation.

This is one reason why I really do not like nuclear power. I understand it's one of the most efficient ways of generating power but at what cost? Every reactor is like a small nuclear bomb just waiting for a spark. I grew up less than 15 miles from a reactor and at one time they shut it down because the employees were hiding a huge hole in the reactor wall. It was like an 18" thick wall and it had a spot where it was down to like 1/8" thick because some shit was eating away at it and nobody wanted to fix it. If that shit would have gotten through I'd probably be dead...

Yeah, i think if we were to design new reactors, and new plants, it would be much better. All these plants from the 60s are getting old and deteriorating

If u think gas prices are high now.. Shut down the power plants and see how high it goes america would collapse over night.
Coal fired plants are even worse in the long run. Can u say dirty??
thats fine with me if we have to run on coal even more because that means im going to be making even more money because it will be in high demand

and live in the middle of the united states all you got to worry about here is tornado's and the very very very very random earthquake every 20 years and not a 500mph wave hitting you

I'm not saying I think we could do without them right now, I'm just saying I don't like them. I think America as a whole needs to take a more serious attitude towards alternative CLEAN energy sources. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that think things like solar and wind energy are stupid....we'll never progress as a society this way.

Did you miss the part where I said I grew up next to a power plant that came very close to melting down?

i agree. Me and my father have built two diesel trucks so far that run on WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil), we are also looking into wind power to power our houses. We already have a small windmill setup, but need to go bigger. its pretty interesting stuff.

Itll be a long time before were not dependent on fossil fuels, but we should have started the transition loooong ago. Its going to be too late by the time everyone realizes that we need to go that route.

have you seen how long it takes to pay off one of them wind turbines they really arent that efficient after you do maintance and if something breaks on them... We will never be able to stop using coal unless you go to all nucular power plants.

Plus your electric bill will be at the *** if we ever stop using coal because its as cheap as you can get

Yep u better have a rebreather lying around if we ever think that coal is the solution to our energy problem.
you better buy yourself a Prius then and have lots of money if you wanna be able to completely quit using coal because you dont seem to realize how cheap coal is go use some other form of energy i bet your bill goes up a good amount

This is exactly the attitude that's keeping us from moving forward. If the technology isn't affordable yet, it's because nobody is taking it seriously. It's still almost considering a luxury type item. If our entire country were to embrace the alternative options and we got more people working on it, we could make advances in the technology and bring the prices down. Just sitting there scoffing at the idea and picking it apart is not helping anything.
