Ok. I have a stock rewound 200amp alt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif My setup is in my sig. I was wondering why my amp was cutting off and realized it is low voltage. I have a voltmeter in my car and it drops down to 12.5 while im driving now wasn't doing it before. At first I didn't think that 12.5 would make the amp shut off, but then I realized the amp might be seeing a lower voltage than 12.5. I maybe wrong but my batteries dont seem to be the problem I believe its my alt. I just need confirmation that my alt is the problem. What brand HO alt should I get and how many amps would be sufficient?

Ok. My batts. and alt are good. I did some testing today and my back batt. would read 14.0 volts and drop to around 13.1 at idle, but my amp would read 14.0 volts but drop to 12.1. Why would it do that?

I bet the rewound alt is bad.
I had it tested it was fine. It charges at the right voltage and everything. Like I said when the amp draws the voltage at the amp is a ~ a volt lower than at the amp terminals. For example, if the voltage drops to 13.1 at the back battery it is 12.1 at the amp and I cant figure out why.

Was the amplifier tested under a load?

if your batteries at full tilt at idle when playing are resting around 13 volts but 12 volts at the amp then either your runs from the amp to the battery is too long or too small of wire and causing lots of voltage drop or a connection isnt secure

What are you using for cabling to the rear batts and amp? O gauge? Your rear voltage drop sounds like poor cabling or connections. Check all connections. Retighten all compression screws on the cable at the fuses, battery posts and distro's. Look for burn marks, oxidation or loose connections.

Tripple check you have a solid clean ground connection at the amp and batteries.
