HO alt question

The question is what is the effect is this going to have on the stock electrical system of a newer car?

Had a HO alt on my 93 toyota pickup but it was a base model truck and every now and then it would surge. Don't think it ever did anything to the electrical on the truck but I always wondered. I had always heard that could cause damage but I never had any problems.

I am going to keep the Memphis Belle amp just curious what the effects would be on the electrical system if any on my 02 corolla. I have a small power accoustik amp(250wrms) in now and my lights dim with it pushing a single alpine type s 12" so I know the memphis amp will stress the stock system and an upgrade of some type will be needed. Figure I would ask others with some experience with this.

Nobody knows? I read the sticky up at top which was very helpful but again if any problems what might be the concern I should have if any at all.

Anyone have a lets say 2000 model or newer vehicle with a HO alt?

Any problems from the HO alt?

You should always use wire that can run the current that the alternator can put out, and fused for the maximum amperage of the wire. If you have a 300 amp alternator, I don't think stock 4 gauge with a stock "whatever size" fuse is going to be optimal.

if it is installed right you shouldnt have any issues. if the alt was designed for your car it wont need anything but the propper pully if not you might be in trouble of it not kicking on until you are moving...
