I have recently had a change of heart with the XXX 12 that I have. Let me explain.... When I first purchased the sub and installed it I was very upset about how it was preforming. I bought a premade ported box, after I screwed up my built box (I made it 1" too big, then the tee nuts broke it between the spacers so I trashed the box). I didnt like the way the quality of the ported box was so I decided to take my dual 12 box and chop it in half... this worked out well and I sealed the joints again to make sure everything was leak proof.

well I installed the sub into that box and then it started rattling, I was so pissed. At the time it would seem that everytime I touched the cone it would stop rattling. I was able to adjust the gain to a really low setting and prevent the rattling.

TODAY I was installing my CDT comps from djdillidon and I realized that it was not my sub that was rattling at all, it was my lid that goes over my spare tire... it had seemed that everytime I pushed the cone the sub would stop rattling when infact I had my hand on the lid, and that prevented the lid from rattling.... So today I cranked up my gains, threw in a test tone and BOOM.... the XXX is banging...

I am very happy with the XXX now...

You did properly set the gains for your desired output power, correct? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Because if you simply cranked the gains indiscriminately, that XXX may not have a very long or healthy life...

the gains are onpoint Jack... that is one of the reasons why I used the test tone cd... I needed to be able to clearly hear the distortion and I couldnt. Once I got the base level with the test tone I re adjusted it for normal music...

It's nearly impossible to detect distortion with subsonic tones. I reccomend getting a DMM so you dont hurt the big guy...

I would love to port it again but my time restraints me from doing this. I might have to think about it in the spring.

well I used a 60hz tone. I was able to hear it start to sound messy and that is when I lowered it...

It is said that test tones create more stress on the sub than normal music, so I adjusted it a little higher once I got the music on and I was able to use the test tone setting as a base-line to where distortion started

Well... I wouldnt do it that way, but if it lasts then I shall shake your hand.

what do you recommend ??? I can not use a dmm to set it because I have a diamond d5 1200.1

meaning the amp is set up with 2 channels but the bridge internally... so when I take a dmm reading I get like .3 or something

I usually set my gains below the targeted voltage... for example if I need 20 volts, ill set it to 18 or so so that I can play around with equalizers and still be safe. Don't set your gains higher than your target voltage... its not really worth the risk.

Sounds like you're measuring DC resistance instead of AC voltage...

right... its a monoblock amp, so both channels are essentially the same one. are you sure you know how to properly use the DMM?
