the cone it self is from a JL w1I was in contact with my local Boston Rep. This is what he replied:
"I looked at the video and spoke with Matt at Boston. This is not a Boston
Product. It looks like they double stacked another woofer basket on a G5
Basket and also used a Boston Dust Cap but no other parts are Boston. Pretty
cool excursion out of these custom modified woofer though."
Thats the answer. NOT BOSTON...just BOSTON parts used... custom woofers.
That is a fun story...why do ID subs say eD on them ?

theres 2 subs in the video... one has a jl cone the other a boston...the cone it self is from a JL w1
yup. cotjones see's a w1 cone and i think i see kicker for the inner surround. i just didnt think a boston spider couldnt handle that tho. ive seen a mtx 9500 max out and it never compared to that. isnt 9500's suppose to be the highest excursion sub on the market? 4" p-p?. what could of been used for that then? slinkies?? i still say a xmx or parthenon spider was used. (or something close) i spoke to a guy at tc sounds and he told me "a linear 6" excursion from a 12" woofer is physically impossible to achieve. the rippled-wave nomex/woven cotton design has been around for over a strong 70 years or so and still has been proven most reliable. a spider needs to maintain its reliability and not stress and warp by having to stretch so far, and that the diameter of the spider would matter the most. the larger the spider, the more excursion you'll get.(reliably) therefor the design couldnt have been linear" (but it looked pretty linear and controlled to me). it makes since cause the spider would eventually have to get bigger than the mounting hole to do so. the 9500 12"'s spider is like over 10" in diameter to do what it does. so it couldnt be a traditional spider design unless rubber bands were used. and i dont think they were.I was in contact with my local Boston Rep. When people discuss "linear excursion" they don't mean "it stays straight during up and down travel", they mean that the motor force stays linear on the coil. Linear basically means the motor force stays fairly constant against the coil. Once it begins to leave the gap, the force drops off and the coil is said to have non-linear travel.therefor the design couldnt have been linear" (but it looked pretty linear and controlled to me).
