Hifonics, horribly overrated?

Yeah, I know the idea of one being overrated has been contest many times on this forum but I was setting my gains today on my Bxi1606d. With the HU's eq flat-lined, ipod test-tones, ipod eq flat, gains at minimum. I hooked the DMM up to the empty speaker ports and set to ACV.

I played the test-tone, 50-59hz, and begin to work on the gains knob with the HU volume at 26/35(roughly 75%, maybe a little less). And I went through the spectrum of 30-39hz(which the box is tuned at), through 60-69hz. The LPF and SSF have been set for the subwoofer to work in the range of 25hz and 85ish hz.

I noticed with the gains maxed out that the output volume also maxed out on all octaves at 32.1 with the usual average being 28.4. Which quite a bit short of the "advertised" 1600watts(aka 40v) or even the slight overrated of around 1200-1300(aka 34ish and up area).

If the DMM is reading true and everything else is also true then the amplifier is feeding the subwoofer 1030watts at max value and around 830watts on average with the gains set to max.

I think I will place my order for a AQ 1200.1, Sundown SAE-1000d, or ED NINe.1 now.

I had mine "clamped" at this past weekends show. 2 bxi2006d's strapped to 2 type R's D4(via maxx link), which should put them at .5 ohms before rise and all that. This was at the end of the comp, They were warm, subs were warm and it was hot out. But they only put out 2048watts FOR THE PAIR! I don't know how accurate this method is, but I checked them the next day with my own meters and got the same results. I did hit a 150.2 though.

I had a Hifonics BX1000D and just now got a AQ 1200D - Yea, I notice a little bit of an increase and my gains are a little lower because of that, but it's not that much of a difference for me. Still pound away like before.

2v pre-amps??
x991 has 5v pre-outs.

I managed to knock the voltage up to about 40ish, all bass settings down and the HU subwoofer setting at 15/15. Doesn't clip unless its in the 25-35 range(which the box is tuned at 34hz so thats kinda weird.)

No idea but the subwoofer sounds like it's bottoming out in that low of an octave, but it shouldn't be since the box is tuned to 34hz. :S

Anyways, I also set the gains of my Sundown SAX 100.2 two channel amplifier which is rated 100x2 @ 4-ohms which is about 28.3 but it sounds like I may be overpowering my component set a tad, Rainbow 08' SLC 6.5"(takes 100watts RMS).

But like I said, with the volume at 26 it attenuates the tweeters on most songs especially when the song climaxes or the subwoofer begins to move. The midbass sound fine till you get to some heavier parts where it sounds like they're beginning to meet their mechanical/thermal limits.

But why would that be so if the amplifier is feeding the right amount of power that they should take?

The X991 actually starts clipping at 25 on the volume knob (at least mine does...used a 0db 50hz test tone and was using an oscope to see when the wave started to become square...with the sub at +15 and everything else at zero).

How are you running the SAX-100.2? You running it 100x2@4ohm? If so than 28.3 is way to high (100*4=400 sq. rt. = 20)...unless it's too early in the morning for my math skills?

As far as getting another amp...I'm sure you're happy with the Sundown so just get another one (SAZ-1500D for a little extra power if you need it in the future).

Did you measure amperage of the amp output when playing at full with the load connected?

What was the current that you measured?

What was the voltage with the load connected?
