Hi - new member

I needed some car audio advice. I have a 2012 Jeep JK 4-dr with Infinity system

and want to upgrade amp and speakers. It's very hard to find space to put a subwoofer

unless I use valuable cargo space. I opened this post - Need help designing a round enclosure

in the enclosure forum.

I was wondering if I'd loose anything getting rid of the old small amp, adding a new one.

Seems I read somewhere about fader control being lost, but that could have been something else.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum...For a while I competed with my 2008 Jeep JK 2 door it was doing 154s in a daily setup on 4 10s it was awesome.... but I had to remove the back tumble seat...There should be room behind your rear seat for a couple of nice 10s ....Its super easy running wiring ...If you have a nice factory deck you can tap into your rear speakers with a quality LOC converter...to get RCAs for your amp...some amps have this built in...

Hi,

yes there's room there but I don't want to give up the cargo space. I do want a new HU, but I'm probably going to

do this in halfs; with the 2nd half next year which will include the new HU, backup camera, iDataLink, new USBs, Serius etc. I thought for this

year I could run the stock HU with speaker level inputs to a new amp under driver side seat. I'll run the preamp wire to prepare for when I replace

the HU and connect through preamp. Also bought dynamat which I'll install this year. The subs are the issue now and at this point

it comes down to how to bolt the round enclosures over the wheel well. If you see my first post, I am looking at using a drum shell

vs Sonotube. I used to be a drummer and I know that despite how thin the shell walls are; they're very strong and rigid. I'm going to also

wrap them in their black glossy wrap. They have all their other typical drum finishes like glitter, pearl, onyx or flame, but I want mine

to look fairly plain in black. They'll also do custom wraps if you have artwork. One could really make the enclosure look personalized.

There's a nice fellow Gary at: Custom Drums, Drum Wrap, Drum Parts, Drum Shells, Drum Recovering - Precision Drum Company, Inc. who's working with me. He might be able to save me

some time by creating the end pieces that I'll need. I don't have a router that cuts round pieces. To get the 10" sub into a 14" diameter

drum shell, I'll need for him to create that inner mounting hole of about 2 5/8" around the perimeter and then a solid piece for the bottom. As you can

imagine, that's not something they normally do. So, it will come down to whether they'll do it and if it's a feasible cost for me.

I'll keep you all posted if interested.

The big problem for me is going to be mounting them. If it's bolted solidly onto the top of the wheel well, that should work right? As long as

it is solidly mounted...?
