Hey y'all Mike here from Las Vegas

whats up fellas,//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif new to this forum, or any forum for that matter.

It's been aprox. 20 years or so since I was into car audio. been poking around lately at some equipment for my wife's 2005 jeep liberty due to blown speakers. once I took them out I found a nightmare. each speaker had it's own amplifier screwed to it and these harnesses that looked like everything daisy chained together. not sure, I could be wrong but I was not about to get involved with trying to just replace the speakers, plus the factory ones where way to expensive for what they are(junk).

so here is what I picked up.

pioneer deh-80prs head unit

a set of soundstream rc-6 components

a set of soundstream sp2.654 with the pro2.xvr x-overs

a boss audio cap200cr 20 farad cap.

hifonics hfi 100.4 amp

hifonics brutis bxi 1200.1

soundstream r3-12 dual 2 ohm

all 2 ga. power and ground wire

14 ga. speaker wire

not a big fan of boss but I figure im not doing a crazy system so this should do it's job for the mean time.

just wanted to share what I am building and get some input on the equipment, experiences ect. and some ideas on boxes .

thanks for reading

Mike

Sounds good to me but im new to forum as well and also live in vegas im in summerlin but im just building my system and was going to get 2 12" SWR-12D4 Type-R in a ported box with a Planet Audio AC5000.1D i was going to see if there was another amp i could get around that price around 145 that can push them well cause i know boss amps **** but it is what i can get now

Good head unit, everything is is meh. Soundstream is not even close to being as good as they used to be and hifonics have crappy 4 channels, go with ppi p900 or bk800. Get rid of that capacitor its completely useless and does more harm then good. Get a big 3 upgrade kit and use 0 gauge. For wire go with knuconceptz or sky high.

what are your goals here sound quality? Thats also lot of power for one weak sub.

if I had the money I would go with some ID subs would like to try some brax amps or helix, there is a lot of different equipment I would love to try out and see what I like best, but, this is my wife's jeep and not mine, plus I needed something on the less expensive side due to our expenses lately, plus i'm trying to save money to get her a newer rubicon. I do agree with what your saying in regards to soundstream and hifonics, but for under 200 for the amps and around 550 for the rest I couldn't really pass it up. none of it was ever installed. when I went to the local car audio shop to get a dist. block I about had a heart attack when he told me they were 50 bucks a piece then an extra 10 bucks for fuses, WHAAAATTT!!! ... anyhow I tend to lean to SQ. there is nothing like listening to a live recording that is recorded well. isn't ppi made by the same company that makes hifonics? seems like most companies are all bought out by one another now a days.

also I decided to build a quikie little amp rack the other day so I didn't have to fight for a place to put everything plus I made it so it can be removed fairly easy.

here are some pics of what I did.

mostly online(where ever has the best deal thats not shady) or classifieds on here(from trusted members only) or caraudioclassifieds.org.

Should be fun putting it all in man. Good job on the rack. Got your enclosure designed?

not yet. I mean yes I do have a slot ported box desighned but unsure if im going sealed or ported. so I bought enough wood to build both. install them both and listen to them and see what I like. the only thing is I am unsure of the woofer displacement, it is not in the manual, I think I chose .14 or .16 figured that would get me close.

Based on its thiele small parameters,

The with an efficieny bandwidth product of 28.7, its a lot less then 50 which means its geared for sealed applications for best sound. It needs a very big ported enclosure to make up for the low efficiency and motorforce.

You have to much talent to use that equipment. Such a waste
thanks, but this is my wifes jeep. the setup that is in there now is deh-x9600bhs, nano picaso pn5.640d, planet audio torgue 6" 6.5" whatever they are, and a RF p-1 10" sub. I think it sounds like crap compared to what I used to be used to but she thinks its too loud lol. like I said before I have been out of it for about 20 years so I am learning all over again, this is one of the main reasons I am here. I would not consider it a waste but yet a learning experience, one thing I have been noticing is that all the equipment out there now (sorry I say equipment not sure what it is referred to now a days) all say this and that and look good on the specs but does not seem to sound like it should, could be due to install, could be due to the manufactures getting cheap, whatever it is, its getting sad out there. we are also planning on purchasing a new rubicon in the 10 to 12 months so for that jeep I should have all the right equipment (there's that word again) and have a handle on all the new stuff out there........ that is my plan anyway. I will just use this jeep for a learning experience.

Bacically everything that was good 20 years ago is not anymore. Stuff to look at now would be Hybrid audio, digital designs, you mentions brax, top end JL, ZED, anything in the SSA Store, audison/hertz..

this is my ported desighn I was going to build.
Going over this sketch, I'm seeing some errors with the interior measurements. Are you using 3/4 mdf? The interior width should be 21 3/4 and the depth should be 15 1/2 based on your exterior. Assuming your exterior height is 15 1/2 (I see 14" for your interior height) you have roughly 2 cubes net after all displacements. If you went with a 2" wide port, you would need 32 1/2 inches of port to be at 32hz. You would be in the 40hz range with your sketch at 3" wide.

well, that sketch has been sitting around for a couple months and I can't remember how I came up with what I came up with, but what I am trying to achieve is according to soundstreams pamphlet is a box that is 2.25 cubic feet tuned to 34 hz, it also says 2.25 cu. ft. already includes port and woofer displacement, not sure if this means net or gross, do I build it 2.25 cy. ft. or do I build it (example) 2.5 cu. ft. (boxes for some reason have always been tough for me)
