Hey Christians

And all the arguments for or against god in the world will never prove why any rational person would choose one religion over another.
I would argue they are all equally probable....and since it is a zero sum game, the probability of you picking the right one is low....but not as low as picking none. I don't buy your argument that picking one arbitrarily is somehow detrimental...especially when you acknowledge upfront your selection is arbitary and random.

And though there is some evidence from people like Pascal Boyer that the belief in god is perhaps innate in us, the relationship between parent and child is COMPLETELY innate and natural in almost every animal ever on the face of the earth. I doubt that any serious person would say that needs further demonstration.
Guess you haven't seen too many animals eat thier own offspring...

I thought real Christians don't pay attention to the Old Testament anymore.
Or are we back to pretending that the Bible, written by men 40 years after Jesus, re-interpreted by men 2000 years after Jesus, is factual?

And please show me how the Bible is true, and the Qur'an is not.
No one can....but I put my money on black...if you get my drift.

Sorry I am quoting you so often...as usual, only poster with connected, concrete arguments with reading...

They are equally probable, but not as probable as the existence of no god based on what we know so far. When things are equi-probable (or less probable), I don't think any rational person should then choose one to be true and the other to not be. It's not the religion that causes conflict, per se, but how people think about it (and other things) that is most concerning.

Sure I have, but I would say the vast majority do not, and in the context of the original conversation (does my mother love me?) I think we can agree that the relatinoship between parent and offspring is far better documented than the existence of god.

I think the assumption here is that a person has to or should put their money down on the table. Or perhaps that there are benefits (a pay out) to guessing right, and none to atheism. I don't think either of those are true.

If it the religious aspect did not expand beyond the home, it would be a considerably less dangerous gamble which would not be quite so bothersome for me.

why have faith in what can be demonstrated as it will eventually end up corrupt just like everything else humans do?
Not sure I understand the point here. Are you saying that only religion prevents things from becoming corrupt?

Got a serious question... The day Christ was born "Chistmas" is ALWAYS on dec 25.... How come the day he dies always changes... easter isnt on the same day every year?

Christmas is a symbol of Christ's birth. It does not suggest he was actully born on Dec 25.
Easter is a 'sunday' holiday, so it must change dates each year.

Yes, I went to a Non-Denominational church here in town called Valley Creek. I was asked by my mother, so I appeased her.
Non denominational is good. ANd you're a good boy for appeasing your mother. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ever since I was able to make my own educated decisions, I was faaaar from a believer. Countless arguments with Christians about how I believed in evolution, the reason blacks were black because they evolved to handle the heat in africa, whites are white cause there from england, mexicans cause its kinda hot lol...it all made sense to me. Religion was just a false sense of hope too me, and I strongly believed this.

Untill recently my beliefs have changed, and I can truly say it's for the better. What's the point in living this life believing that it's all for the moment, and when you die, which can be whenever, it's all just over...

Having Jesus in my heart has brightened up my life in many ways, and I can tell you this, how could it make it worse? And now I have a constructive guide for my daughter to grow up with.

Wow, who knew whites were white because they came from England. I sure didn't.

Following religion because it makes you feel better is not the same thing as following it because you believe. Again, Im pretty sure if there IS an omnipotent and omniscient being in the after life, he's probably gonna be able to tell if you went to church sincerely.
