Hertz 165/xl or piece together

I'm looking to do a front stage setup on a g35 coupe . My budget for speakers 2 tweeters and 2 6.5s is around 600.

I'm hearing great reviews on the 165xl from hertz. My goal is outstanding clarity with enough bass that a small sub will be good enough to complete the system.

I'm gonna have a new pioneer 8500, has active capabilities, and a ppi 900.4. Which is around 150 rms at 14v. And 100@ 12 volts.

Would I be able to piece together something similar to the xl for cheaper if I go active with only this amp and radio.

I haven't got the amp or radio. I'm willing to change my mind on equipment but I wanna spend more on speakers less on equipment.

The ppi amp is about 150 and gets good reviews , I would go up to 200 for something that will work better with a different option.

Or should I just do the xl with this set up and not go active. I want a 2 way, I'm not really to interested in modding for 3 way

the HKS-165XL is an awesome set of speakers. they can sound fantastic if you install them properly and power them well. as a general rule, i spend as much or more on amplification. a cheap amp won't make a quality speaker shine but the speaker install is certainly better. i spend about 20 hours on a speaker install, using 4-5 materials for acoustical treatment.

snagging some XL's used can leave more funds for a better amp.
