Hey all. I've been browsing this site for a while and finally would like some quick opinions. i used to have an integra w/ alpine HU, 10" L5 in huge ported box (tuned to kicker specs), jbl bp 600.1 and stock speaks. that was a bit too low for me and i wanted more punchy bass.

so now i have a 99 prelude and as of a couple weeks ago i had a jl 10w1v2 in their powerwedge box (i dont want to build a box if i dont have to) hooked up to an alpine m350 amp with an alpine HU (not too old). the sub and amp got stolen and i've been living bassless for a couple weeks and can no longer deal with it.

all the 8 gauge wiring remains so all i need is a sub, box, and amp for now (components and 2 ch amp later). i liked the jl but felt i could handle a little more as far as power/loudness. please give me some recommendations.

also, i saw this on craigslist: http://gainesville.craigslist.org/ele/753868978.html

and the guy told me $75 for the amp (alpine M450), $125 for the sub (12" type r--4-ohm). i thought about grabbing the amp and taking it to a local place try out some newer jl's. ive got ~$400 to spend. thanks for your help!

That's a pretty good deal on the amp. Don't get the Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh though, those subs like a lot more power than what Alpine says. You can get nice subs, as good at JL, for less. JL has good products, but thier prices are rediculously high. Read on the subwoofer forum, and look around. But if that 10" L5 wasn't enough for you, you're going to need to get a bigger amp and bigger sub(s). I'm running a 10" L5 and giving it 600+ rms.

You're going to want to upgrade your wire to atleast 4 gauge if you're planning on using two amps.

alright, ill probably snag that amp for 70 or so. as far as upgrading my wiring, i probably wont be getting comps for a while. quick question for when i do get around to adding a second amp for them...would i only need one 4 gauge install kit (i have knukonceptz) to take the place of the current 8 gauge?

as for the sub, i wonder if a 13w1v2 would fit? or maybe ill step up to a 10w3v3. any other suggestions?

Just get the 4 gauge wire now. A 4g dual amp kit from Knu is only like $60, and well worth it, or look for a Kicker PKD4 kit on eBay. It will only help you, not hurt anything but $60 out of pocket, and you'll have to get around to it sooner or later.

Where in Florida are you?

im just thinking if im gonna buy the m450 anyways i dont need to upgrade the wiring yet, which means ~$60 more towards a quality sub and enclosure.

im in gainesville for school right now but heading back home to ft lauderdale next week. i see ur in PSL...i lived in melbourne 2 years for school/baseball before comin up here
