Helping deaden turbo noise

I've got an International Truck (medium duty- 33k GVWR), and the truck is built like a tin can. It rattles and vibrates like nobody's business. I bought some dynamat extreme and did the roof, doors, and most of the floor, and that helped a TON with the vibration sounds.

Here's my problem- the cab is still loud as can be from road noise and the turbo (high pitched whine all the time....).

What can I do to make it quieter?? I looked at the Luxury liner pro (http://www.secondskinaudio.com/noise-barrier/Luxury-Liner-Pro.php), maybe the v-comp stuff (http://www.b-quiet.com/vcomp.html), but I'm not sure that either will really make things quieter.

Anyone have any reccomendations? (other than earplugs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif)

TIA!

get some firewall stuff it goes on the inside of the cab, use spectrum sludge and than layer all that with luxury liner pro.

check out secondskinaudio.com they have some really good stuff that you can use and bring down the roadnoise greatly.

damp pro is not even comparable to dynamat, it is in its own league. 80mill thick and 4 mil foil layer.

sum it up BUY SECOND SKIN.

He is also going to need a mass loaded layer to block that noise from coming through. Sadly, he has that stuff called Glass that is **** near impossible to block noise from coming through //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I think a lot of the noise is coming through the firewall, but the dynamat didn't really do anything to help that (maybe 10%...)

The glass will definitely be hurting the situation, but the good thing about big trucks is the engine is mostly lower than you, and the road is quite a waze down.

Faiz23- the firewall stuff you're talking about- I take it that's from second skin as well as the luxury liner?

As far as second skin goes- buy from their site or cheaper dealer?

thanks for all the responses- helps sort out the confusion heh

Firewall is a thermal insulator - unless heat transfer is a problem, you won't accomplish anything by adding it. Adding more vibration damper won't help much either. You're on the right track with Luxury Liner or V-Comp. Completely line the firewall and you'll make a big dent. If you have room for a two layers, that will help even more. It's important that the barrier layer not have any gaps in it.

Ok, so after reading and thinking about this, here's my plan:

Spectrum sludge on the *outside* of the firewall. (Will this work??)

Dynamat extreme on inside of floor, firewall, doors (already in place)

Luxury Liner on top of Dynamat inside, as much covering as I can.

Motor Mat on the hood (fiberglass hood + fenders //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif)

I'm not sure on the Luxury liner vs. the luxury liner pro- since I'm trying to block sound, I'm thinking open celled foam instead of closed.

Does that make sense?

Thanks again for the input!

You might want to put something like Dynamat on the hood before you install the liner - if resonance is an issue. At 1/4", there's very little difference in acoustic performance between closed and open cell. Closed cell is more resistant to moisture and is less likely to compress under your feet.

cuz hes a baller! i wanna mxt. they are badassss
lol not quite an Mxt, a little bigger- 4900. I drive one as an equipment hauler in the mountains of colorado. (MXT's are niiiiice though- probably don't need sound deadening in those bad boys)

So the open/closed cell thing as far as performance goes is moot then at the thicknesses I'm dealing with? I may save some $ by going with the open celled stuff then.
