I have made a box for my sub and used sealant around all the corners and edges and also around the terminal cups. The only problem is that once I put in the sub, a small amount of air is passing in and out of the box around the edge of the sub. Does this matter? (There is very little air leaking out and in). Do suggest that I use sealant around the edge of the sub?

Also, the screws that hold in the sub are pushing against the inner lip of the sub (not the rubber surround but the very hard rubber ring between the rubber surround and the outer metal edge. The screws are making a slight bump on the inner side of the hard rubber ring. I'm pretty sure that the movement of the sub is not effected but would it be a good idea to get screws with smaller heads.

The air leakage probobly isn't making a dramatic difference but, it would still be a good idea to put a gasket around the sub opening. You should be able to find a gasket at a local audio shop, otherwise I have used weather stripping which worked OK. The screws touching the hard rubber surround shouldn't cause any problems as long as the sub is anchored well to the box.

The leaking does make a difference. If you can feel the air leaking out, then it does make a difference. The sub is relying on the air pressure inside the sealed enclosure, and the leak is working against the sub "so to say". I know I've had small leaks, and most of the time, when it gets sealed, there is a noticeable difference in volume. Go ahead and get it sealed.
