Help - Recone problem?

Hey everyone! My friends Sundown Zv4 18 is clipping at like 10 percent of gain. Can the recone he just had done be doing it. The motor is good ect. Everything is checking positive and good.

Check your amp bud. Subwoofers Dont clip, amps do.

Ok, Well this is what im getting. Its been tried on 3 different cars/alts/batterys/amps. And now it is narrowed down to the sub. Im curious because it almost slaps.

Is it making a scraping noise? The "clipping" sound could be the voice coil rubbing on the motor. Juan is right.. Subs don't clip, lolz

If your friend did the recone himself, this may be the case. If he sent it somewhere like PSI, I doubt the sub is the problem.

Yes, it almost gets to a point where it hits hard and SLAPS. He did it himself.

Is it with a drop-in recone from Sundown, or "custom parts".

Oops sorry, its a drop in. From sundown. Because i can buy it off of him. Motors good. Clean. And i want it.

Hmm.. My guess is that something is not aligned or glued correctly. If it was different parts, I'd say the spiders weren't stiff enough. If he got the right recone, it must be an instalation error.

So my question to you is it worth me buying it for 100$ bucks and throwing a new recone in it.?

I'd buy it for a hundred bucks. Send it into PSI (or a similar place). Have it professionally done with upgraded soft parts.

How hard is it to send to PSI? And what are the costs usually on something like that?

Its not hard. They have a build request form on the website. I'm not sure about the exact cost. My friend sent his DD 9515 in and it sounds great. He was very happy with the customer service too. You could ask SPL audio what he would charge. Just PM him

I'm not sure what his exact username is. I just know he builds some awesome custom subs. He does re-cones too. Anyone else know his exact username?

Sending it to psi if it's just a recone will cost about 100-200 bucks shipping and what not
