Hey guys. Just installed my system which is:

Cheap Pioneer CD HU

Powervox 2900W 5 channel amplifier

6.5" MB Quart 2 way components

4" MB Quart coaxials

Pioneer 500W sub

Sony 4guage Wiring kit

Well i installed the system 1 week ago in my 1988 Supra,

and everything was running sick. Pumping hard and sounding great. NO problems aswell.

Then just yesterday i was driving for about 30mins, then the sub suddenly turned off and the speakers all started to distort really hard, where they normally go double that volume fine. After parking i turned the car straight back on and everything was back to normal.... thought it was ok, but then after 20 seconds of driving it happened again. This is what i have worked out so far:

-It only happens when the engine is on.

-If the engine is turned off then on, starts good again, then after approx 20 seconds it goes bad.

-In accessories it NEVER happens, goes hard nicely.

I thought originally it may be the wiring come loose from bumpy driving, but i tried driving really slowly and smooth on a really nice road and it happened after approx 20secs again...

Does anyone know why this may be?

The only probs i see is that the power and ground cables dont fit in perfect as they are too fat being 4guage, but its been fine till now, and it plays good in accessories.

The amp isnt boleted to anything yet (loose in boot), and i also go sideways alot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

And it also has a Ground Loop Isolator (removed engine whine) and amplified RCA splitters. but these have and still do function 100%

Oh yeh and the speakers crackle a bit like interference when it happens.

Thanks Guys

Hmm...sounds like either ground or power is coming loose? Wouldn't be an issue when the car is sitting still, like in accessories mode. I would check the ground connections at the amps and at the ground point. Then do the same for the power connection.....*POSSIBLY* check your remote lead if all else fails, and make sure the crimp/connection to it is strong.

If that doesn't work......punt.

Thanks mate will do... The only thins is , its hard to get it nicely in the port for the ground and power because they are 4 guage... and the port for them is alot smaller.. I had to chop half off the thread from the wire off to jam it in.

Cheers

This isn't really my expertise, but I'm curious about a couple things.

You say after 20 seconds of driving - does it do it after 20 seconds of the engine being on, but the car is motionless? Or is it strictly after the car is moving?

If it's only when the car is moving, then you have a loose connection somewhere - maybe in the wiring to the HU, maybe within the HU itself, maybe to the amp, etc.

If it's when the car is parked but running, then it might be a voltage issue - have you tested your alternator to ensure it's giving good enough power? Checked the battery? Easy upgrade would be to do the big three and see what happens.

a 2900watt amp using less then 4ga, Are all the wires taped(the ones youcut)? it does just sound like they are grounding out, or an issue with Rca's!
Powervox....2900watt max imo, I just checked out their site and all their 5 channel amps say 1400watts MAX

I dont think 4ga will be a problem on that amp since it shouldnt draw that much power unless its either really inefficient or actually puts out that much power...

Still 2900wa MAX is quite a bit of draw, however seeing as how its a 5channel, the mids and highs wouldn't make it a current monster!
Well, I guess the question is, does it really put out that much power? I am not familiar with that particular amp, and as I am assuming the OP is not in Melbourne fla but rather Melbourne Australia, it could be either great or garbage. Do you have any 8 gauge wire you can use to run to the amp instead of 4? I'm not sure how long of a run that would be however....

Sorry, its approx 20secs of engine being on. Even if motionless. What is the big 3?

And yeh, I used a SONY 4ga amp wiring kit. Seems good quality.

The Powervox amp i have is the 2900W max one. The power it puts out I would say would be close to accurate as well. I dont have the gain all the way up on any of the channels and my mate said he can hear me driving to his a block away
