I'm trying help my friend install his system...

It starts with Memphis 4g wirng coming from the battery to a 2 fared Memphis Digital Cap. Cap is grounded secure. Two 4g wires coming from the cap. Each lead going to a Memphis Power Referance 1000.1. Two grounds coming from the cap, each connected to the amp. The amps connected to a 12W7. The Rca's are coming from a Alpine CDA-9856 headunit. then a set from one amp to the other amp..

All connections are solid and secure.

When you cut the system on.. it'll stay on for 5-10 seconds, then one amp always goes into proteciton. We messed around with it for about an hour, then it got dark on us. Am I missing something.. should I run a seperate set of RCA's on his headunit.. im out of ideas.. any can help?

Are the amps set the axact same. Use a volt meter to set the gains the exact same by reading the ac volts on one then set the other one the same make they are disconected from the sub first.

No if you ground them sepretly it defeits the perpass of even having one, you are supossed to ground the amps to the cap then ground the cap.
A parallel circuit is a parallel circuit. As long as the amp and cap are both grounded to low resistance ground points, it doesn't matter if they are grounded separately, together to the same point or if the amp is grounded to the cap which is then grounded.
