hey folks. just wanted to say hi. i'm about to start a new small project for a friend of mine so i thought i'd finally register so i could post pics and such as i went along.
i'm no professional, but i have a great love for electronics and audio in general..home or auto.
most of my installs to date have been in my personal vehicles, but i've done a couple small installs in friends vehicles. so far none of my friends have been in to this stuff enough to dish out real money for their systems, so i haven't been a part of any crazy build-ups. my wife doesn't allow the funds for me to personally go crazy with this stuff so i try to live vicariously through other people's installs...haha.
i personally drive an 02 wrangler. i wheel my jeep, so the install is pretty simple. Pioneer 6500 that i've had for a few years running Kicker KS525 5.25" in the dash that replaced stock 4x6, and a matching pair of 5.25" in the soundbar to accomplish a balanced sound. keep in mind, in a jeep you often won't be able to take advantage of varying ranges and levels of sound, so simple usually is best for overall effect. i have a 10" JL 10w0 in a simple box behind the back seat, and a cheap amp vertically mounted/hidden inside the center console. plans are to build an in-seat rear seat enclosure. basically takes the place of a lot of the seat foam and downfires to the tub. it will be completely out of sight. the 10w0 will be replaced with a 10w3v2 in that enclosure. when the headunit finally goes out, it will be replaced with an Alpine....model to be determined when the time comes.
a buddy of mine has a saturn sl or something...it's a two door. anyway, he has a horrific, dare i say..plywood enclosure for his single 10" sub (i'll post pictures just for the before and after effect..it's going to be funny). he's ready to ditch the crap sony sub and step it up a notch. once again, he's not wanting to drop a whole lot of cash on this as he is buying a harley this week. i've suggested the JL 10w3v2...can you tell i'm a fan. for overall sound, quality and price, it's a nice pick. he was just going to replace his huge box with a single sqaure 10" box, but i suggested fiberglass. explained and showed him how it would tuck away in the corner and would look much cleaner than a square box. he was sold after seeing some pictures of what it could turn out as. his amp is currently mounted on the box, but we will be moving that also. i'm not generally a fan of mounting amps upsidedown, but we will be mounting it under the rear deck. should keep it clean and somewhat hidden, and give him his trunk back.
