I am new to car audio. I recently had my HU stolen, so I have talked my wife in allowing me to do what I like to call "minor modification" to my current sound system. Well, if you wanted to call 13 year old factories pushed by a cheap Jensen a system.

I drive a 1995 Mazda B Ext Cab

As for my upgrades, the following is my most current list:

HU: Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X792

Amp: Alpine MRP-F550

Front Stage: Infinity Kappa 680.7cs

Rear Stage: Infinity Kappa 682.9cf

My budget for now is around $700, so a sub will have to come later.

I will be browsing the forums here trying to learn as much as I can before my build. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

As for my ultimate listening goal, I want to hook a portable hard drive to the system and be able to listen to my music with clarity and presence. I do listen to a lot of hip-hop, so while bass is essential, I am not trying to win any competitions with this, nor shatter windows. I am thinking of going with a single 12, but undecided as it is not in my budget at the moment.

congrats, i know how it feels when the wife hates on the system, i just talked mine into approving $1400 to do some upgrades to my system, kudos bro
