Head unit touble

Three days ago I installed 4 Infiniti Reference 6.5" coaxials into my car.

Everything was going good.

I had a cheap Aiwa head unit installed at the time.

It worked fine for a 500 mile trip.

Then I installed a new Pioneer DEH P2900MP..

Worked fine for about 4 hours or so..

Then the speakers started to cut in and out.

Didn't matter if it was iPod, radio, or CD, the sound would cut in and out intermittently.

When I drove over bumps(even the bumps that divide lanes on the highway) the sound would come back through the speakers.

Finally it stopped all together, and hasn't worked since.

When I got home I took all the connections apart, and reconnected everything.

Still nothing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The head unit still powers on, the fuse is intact. Just no sound.. :/

Did you check all the connections at the speakers? How are the wires connected to the speakers? Have you tried replacing any of the speaker wires?

If there is a short in one of the wires (pinched), it can cause the amp in the HU to turn off.

Thanks for the quick replies:

I don't think it's a problem with the speaker connections, I checked one of the rears b/c they're easy to take out, and it looked fine. Jiggled the wires to be sure they were in place. I'll check the others again though, just to be sure. The speaker wires are stock, and clipped on. They weren't giving me any trouble for the first 8 hours(500 miles) with the original Aiwa h/u so I don't think they're the problem.

I don't think any of the wires connected to the h/u are pinched either, they don't look pinched, and I tried playing a CD while the h/u was not slid back into the dash and it still didn't work.

I took out the plug that goes into the h/u and reconnected it but still nothing. I also tried jiggling it around, again, it didn't work.

Thanks for the ideas guys, it's good to know I'm not alone.

I have two wires unused from the 1993 Accord harness: one is orange, and the other is blue. I am almost positive one of them is for the power antenna b/c it doesn't go up when I turn on the radio. The other was unused for the Aiwa h/u, so I didn't connect it either. I don't think these wires are the problem though, b/c the h/u was working without them for the 4 hours or so. The only unused wire from the Pioneer h/u is a blue and white one labeled 'remote'.

Thanks again guys!!! Today I went to a friend's house and we figured out it was a short in one of the connections to my speakers. So now everything is up and running! Vocals are still a bit 'cloudy' but I guess it's the Infinity References..
