Im trying to decide on my first head unit.

I have 2 options here:

1) Flip out DVD/Nav

2) Regular CD Player maybe with Nav

On both I would need iPod connector, 3 outputs, dont need amplifier really, want amazing SQ!

I wouldnt mind being able to have XM/Sirius or HD Radio, not too important tho.

On option 1, Id be looking to spend less than... 600? Option 2, less than 350.

Suggestions please.

Amazing SQ with Nav? Probably not

Amazing SQ with nav and under $600...yeah right.

So would you like to rethink your question?

Look for an Alpine CDA-9833 or 9835. It should fit your budget and do what you want, without the navigation of course.

The Pioneer DEH-P880PRS has also peaked my curiosity as well. Look into that if you get the chance. Oh...and you won't get navigation either...sorry.

If I were you, I'd look for a 9835 as mentioned and pair it with the H701 processor. That'll get you the tunability that I think your looking for as well as the quality...

both setups with decent equipment will cost ~ $1000....

i would suggest just getting a 9835 on ebay like the other guys suggested,

i wouldn't suggest the h701 simply because it costs about $500

OK CD player, maybe no Nav, I just thought the Eclipse had it. Do yall not think Eclipse in the under 500 dollar range not good for SQ?

EDIT: It is an amazing movie. lol

the eclipse do have that miniscreen navi on their higher end hu's but they need a $200 adaptor in order to use it

eclipse 7000 can be had on ebay new for under 500 and is a great unit

seems like a waste cause then you would need the controller for the h701. i would just get the 9861 and h701, cause alpine's new ipod interface is great. definately better then the kca-420i that you would need for the 9835. i hardly ever notice difference in sound between decks, just that different decks offer different levels of processing. bottom line i run alpine just because i love the new kc-422i. what's even better is it is only $30 and you don't need a stupid box. just plug and play.

Preferablly under 350... but I could probabbly save up maybe 500 or 600 for it.
How much would a decent/good processor cost?
h701 goes for $499 authorized iirc, but i've seen them go on the forums for $250 or so. that is just thr processor and not the controller. you'll need the controller if you don't get the 961 or 9860 (9860 uses kca-420i ipod interface though) or an indash. i got a precision power dcx-730 for $185 to go along with my 9856 but they seem to be hard to find, atleast at the price i got it for

I could of sworn I read somewhere Eclipse rapes Alpine on SQ.
Ive had multiple newer style alpines and recently switched to a LOW END eclipse (cd3000) and the SQ difference is VERY noticable. It may be contributed to the preout voltage, where alpine still suffers with there new decks. Eclipse makes 8v preouts if you go with the cd5000. Most new alpines are 2v. Alpines used to be great, but it seems every year they get worse.

Just my 2 cents:)
