head unit resetting its self

i recently upgraded my car from a peugeot 106 to a peugeot 206(2000 model) and when switching over my in car audio ive come across an anoying problem with the head unit. basically everything works fine untill i switch the engine off. when i restart the engine the head unit has reset, ie all radio presets are wiped and the clock(on the head unit) has been reset its a small problem but its quite anoying, i thought the problem may have been that on the car there is a knob on the steering wheel which plugs into the back of the standard peugeot head unit which came with the car, the knob controls volume and it can change the track and all that, it also shows this information on a small lcd which doubles to be the clock(on the dash of the car), the connector also fitted the back of my new head unit which i installed but nothing happend when i tried to use the knob, which i figured would happen but after removing the connector the head unit resets its self, and now the clock no longer lights up. any one any ideas what the problem could be? any help would be great

sounds like your 12 volt line is connected to your accessory line on your stereo output wires, instead of it going to a constant 12 volt, it sounds like it is only getting power when the key is switched. hence being hooked up to an accessory wire instead of a constant. thats what it sounds like to me, because of how everything gets reset. if you had a constant 12v it shouldnt do this

Yup.

Black wire goes to ground.

Red wire goes to switched power (so the headunit will turn on and off with your ignition key)

Yellow wire goes to constant power that isn't controlled by the ignition to retain your clock, radio station preset, eq settings, and the like when the unit is turned off.
