Hello.

Ok, first, its a Toyota Avensis (EU name)

For USA i dont know what its called or even available, but heres some related

information from wikipedia:

Also called Toyota Corona T220 (Greece)

Predecessor:

Toyota Carina E (Europe)

Toyota Vista (Japan)

Production 1997–2003

I think the avensis replaced the camry

It has a Stock "toyota" headunit which have stopped working.

Its completly black, no power at all. But it sometimes turns on, stays on for a while, then goes off again.

I took it out to look at cables but to find nothing weird.

I decided to replace the unit with my own WORKING unit, which also DIDNT work in the toyota.

Also black screen, no power.

After some driving it just poppen on, and i played some music for 15 minutes before it goes black again.

after taking the unit out it was also quite overheated, i did however play a bit loud. (no external amplifiers)

The headunit always turns on for a brief moment making a beep sound at the same time as i stop the car (ignition off) like some kind of "good bye" sound when turning off the vehicle.

But the unit rarely starts when i start the car.

So i bought a new set of cables to replace and checked that every cable was right fitted which i am almost 100% sure about.

Now i did some measurements with my voltmeter.

here is what i found out:

With Head unit taken out

The ignition cable (RED) + Ground = 13 volts

The Battery cable (YELLOW) + Ground = 13 volts.

With cables/socket mounted into headunit (tried both units)

The ignition cable (RED) + Ground = 13 volts

The Battery cable (YELLOW) + Ground = 1,2 volts.

So with the cables in the unit, i drop 11 volts on the battery cable.

As soon as i take the cables out, i get the volts back.

I know my own headunit is working, the toyota unit has also several times turned on.

Please, any suggestions? where can i go from here to figure stuff out?
