Head Unit has tuner output but not CD

I just purchased a brand new Clarion head unit. Installed last night and all seemed to work well except for the CD player. The tuner had great output but once a CD was inserted, it seems as if the amplifier lead wont turn on.

The CD spins and the unit thinks its playing the CD but there's no output whatsoever.

I just want to make sure it is a defective unit and not something Im unaware of.

For the record, Im using the high impedance connections (to external amps) for everything so it wouldnt be using the built-in amp for anything.

Anyone come across this before? Definitely a bad unit?

You have the amp hooked to the antenna remote, not the amp remote lead on the HU. The amp remote should be a blue with white stripe instead of solid blue.

Hmm.. Im almost positive I wired in the amp remote properly but it was late.. Ill double check it.

Are you talking about the output from the subwoofer amplifier (And are you running the internal speakers just off the headunit?)

It sounds like you may have the remote line lead hooked up to the power antenna lead, which will only power on the amplifier when you switch to tuner.

I guess the real question is, are you seeing any output at all from the hu's internal amplifier?

Ive seen some units some ways and others the other way, with the blue and blue w/ white stipe wires.

I would either check the hu's manual to see which lead is the remote, or check it with a DMM.

x2. I had a clairon CD player that it was like that too. The blue and the blue and white wires are not right. I paid 25 dollars once for that little nugget of info back in the day.

That was indeed the problem. Didnt help that the previous install had the amp remote lead spliced in with the antenna remote but only the latter was labeled.
