I was taking out my head unit to re-do some wiring, and as I was i guess 2 wires touched and sparked with some smoke. I dont know what wires it was. I disconnected the power (yellow) wire and reconnected the extra one that was there. My HU won't do anything...alpine 9884 in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. Where are the fuses I need to check? How do I know if they are blown? When can I get new fuses? If thats the problem

It should be the same kind of fuses used in your car, the kind usually found in the boot of either of the front seats. Check around the rear of your HU to find its own fuse.

So I should probally replace my headunit fuse? How do I tell if its blown? What abou the car itselfs radio fuse?

But would it be the fuse to my headunit or the fuse on the car? Either way I can get a new fuse at a auto parts store?

Okay I disconnected the battery. Checked out the head unit fuse and it looked fine (wasn't black or broken). Looked at the fuses in the fuse box under the hood and found one that said "radio amp", the fuse looked fine as well. I made sure the power (yellow), ground, ignition, and the antenna were all connected good. I even switched out the ground and power wire with the extra one there was. Still doesn't even turn on...

how do you have so many posts and not know how to check a fuse.....

Post-tard!

Make sure that when you switched the power and ground wires from the factory ones you did it correctly and soldered the wires well. Otherwise they could be not touching or something.

I didn't switch them from the facotry wires. The harness I bought had 2 power and 2 ground wires so I just connected them to the other...then back and still not working
