Head unit dies when antenna is plugged in

I have a Sony CDX-GT420U head unit. It works fine with CDs and aux in. When I plug in the antenna cable it shuts off and I can't turn it back on until the antenna is unplugged.

Any ideas?

Is it a amplified antenna? If so it could be grounding out

if it's an inline amplifier remove it and see if still happens

I just checked the Honda service manual. It doesn't show an antenna amplifier in the wiring diagram.

seems to be pointing towards an internal short. Antennal connections are sometimes extremely tight, something may have cracked, broke or is being pushed into something else when connected. RCA's can be the same way. I had some high end Monster RCA's fit so tight that when I pulled and twisted to remove them it pulled the cup off the female connection off the amp.
