Head unit amplifer gain setting?

So I was going though my head units options today and found it has a amplifier gain option, option 1 is off, option 2 is low(1-30), and the last option is high power (1-50) I'm guessing this is the internal amplifier on the CD player, well the factory setting is the high power (1-50) which is what I set my gains with, if I turned off the internal amplifier would I have to re set my gains? Also would there be any big upside to turning off the internal amplifier like sq due to the signal not being amplified twice?

If you have anything hooked up to the speaker outputs then turning the amplifier off means you'll have no music on any amplifier depending on that signal. I think that's a pretty big difference in SQ.

That is just to keep you from going higher than you are supposed too. Say you set your amp with your hu at 35. Now your girl or brother or someone wants to use your car. If you set it to low power they can only go to 30 and shouldn't mess your equipment up.
