well here is my update. the sub still needs to be installed (box is now finished, but needs a shit load of sanding cause i used more glue than usual and its all over the sides lol). i designed a new box for my hdc after having, what seem to be, cone loading issues. this is my new design

as seen, it is in a sub up/port back configuration with 60^2" of port, which will be going into my explorer sport. so without typing too much BS, here is my update so far.

Pieces cut out, new clamps (i will be buying 2 more as i learned today, that you really cant have too many of them), my handy $20 ryobi drill, some drill bits, glue, and silicone

These are my screws of choice. i used to only use the 1 5/8" grip right screws (the grey ones in the dark grey box). i ran out of them and my gf's neighbor had these that come with their own little bit. this was on my last box build, and as you can see...i was happy enough with them to continue using them on the current build.

As you can see, the head is kind of a mix between an allen head, and a philips head. i have found that because of this unique head, they are almost impossible to strip out, AND you can counter sink them, without using an actual counter sink bit as the pictures show. And as mentioned before, each box comes with the special little bit to fit these screws.

Sub cutout, plus a big you know what for CA.com until they fix the forbidden error and slowness of the site //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif....which also happens to be the glue for the double baffle (yes i added much more glue for good contact, i just took the picture when i just started)

and thats it for now. i will update tomorrow with more pictures and a new update on how the woofer sounds. hopefully i have solved the problem i was having.

Looks good. Nice build.

(Be careful putting those screws so close to the edge. Everytime I get as close as you got my MDG splits, but maybe it is the screws I use.)

nope, its not the screws you use, its just being too close to the edge. i have done it on this build, as well as many others. sometimes, i just get to close and it does split. i guess it depends on how much time you feel like putting into the box. i just kinda go "eh, here seems good" and predrill that *****

Idealrealist: it will be powered by my kx2500.1 (2.96kw @ 2 ohms) @ 2 ohms.

SHOemup233: thanks man. is it hard to build a nice box? depends on what your definition of nice is lol. none of my boxes ever look great anyway. i can tell you this though, putting together a box that will work and sound good is pretty darn easy. making it look super nice and presentable, is harder. i have never carpeted any of my boxes, ever, if that helps you see what kind of a person i am when it comes to aesthetics. the only thing i will be doing tomorrow is sanding it, since this box looks especially shitty to the eye cause of all the wood glue.

Haha yeah. I am pretty much the same way, having an old taurus I pretty much gave up on making it look good, as long as it sounds good I'm set.
if you're trying to decide on whether you should build the box yourself, or pay someone else to do it...trust me, its nice knowing you did the work yourself, and you know exactly what kind of time/effort you put into it. its a good skill to have, and a good experience to go through IMO.

^^^great statement I agree 1000000000......% On subject any reason why you didnt use threaded rod instead of dowels?

egg

so far how do u compare it to the btl?
in the same install as my btl (ie, direct swap), the HDC has quite a bit more upper end. i didnt mess around too much with the low en stuff, because i wasnt comfortable playing it that low in the previous box, which was flawed quite badly.

i will post up more info tomorrow, when the glue is all dried, on how the sub sounds
