so i just installed all this the other day, and knowing that my stock 117 alt is just not going to be enough to be seriously running this speaker, so i expected significant voltage drop (since the amp is rated at 300amp). i did the big 3 with the knu konceptz kol 0/1 (which is equivalent to 2/0 i guess). but here is what i am concerned about, there is not very much voltage drop and i have all my settings at the following:

lpf: like 120 or something...

GAIN: 3/4 the way up!

ssf: 20

and bass boost at 0...but i use the remote bass and that is pretty much at 3/4 most of the time because it doesnt seem like it is using the wattage very well.. now i did NOT use a DMM, but i would think that if i did, the setting would be turned down a little, and then i really dont think it would get as loud as i would have thought.. but dont get me wrong, it gets really loud at and around the tuning freq of 38hz. but when i turn my head unit up to 28/42, some notes sound like they are about to blow the speaker..... i guess i dont really know what my question is.... but am i getting the potential out of the amp?? or will i just not know until i get a DMM??? any thing will help!

Just going on your info provided the combination of high gain setting plus bass boost and your subs not acting right (sounding distorted) at 28/42 it looks like you are pushing your amp into full clip. With the small alt and no extra batts you are also probably running into a low voltage problem.

When you turn your HU volume up and the sub doesn't get any louder or starts to sound strange that's a very good indication your amp and sub are about to have bad things happen to them

sounds like a bad box to me. Tell me about your box. Size,Tuning?
i actually had someone on here design it and build it BJ Customs.. 2.7cuft tuned to 38hz. but the speaker wire is coming out of the box and is kind loose (not sealed tightly) maybe this could be a factor.

also the RCA's on my head unit say SUBWOOFER OUT, and there are two of them, but neither of them say right or left... could they be for two separate amps?? should i hook just one to a splitter (to the amp??)

no your clipping and needs to be fixed. your just sending crap to the sub and it wont be liking you after a while.

the voltage gauge on my truck stay right at or around the 14v... and when i turn up the volume, oh the speaker gets louder. much much louder.

here are how all the settings on everything in my system are set to:

H/U- BASS- 2/7

AMP:

GAIN: 3/4

Bass Boost: 0

Remote Gain: 3/4

LPF: 100ish

SSF: 20

its a power acoustik PTID-4005 head unit. so i am sure it has very low voltage, so im not so sure that having the gain at about 3/4 is all that unreasonable... but i dont know... when i play a 40hz tune its super loud, i feel like i were to turn it up too high it would explode (but maybe thats just how things are when it gets to be that high of pressure..??)

i live in the phoenix, AZ area if anyone know anyone around here that could just take a look at everything, or if someone could let me know how to see if its a box problem..

try -1

and set ur gain 1/3..

could there be a problem with power if the ground connection is not strong enough.. i have it screwed into the back wall of my dakota, but the wall is colored (indicating its painted) that i did not sand down...

You're gain is cranked too high for that setup period. 3k rms on 117 amp alt.? Add a second battery into this equation as well at least. I honestly doubt that your truck is staying at 14v at full tilt on a stock electrical. It's f*****g the sub everytime you turn it up. f*****g is my new word for clipping because thats the only term people understand.

do you have a camera? id be interested to hear your hdc.

something is telling me the sound that makes it seem like the subwoofer is going to blow is what i will call the HDC suspension sound if you see where im going with this...
