im going to be reconing my sub soon to a dual 1 so i can run my amp @ .5 ohm. and been reading around on the recones for aq. i read that there is a difference between the copper & aluminum coil suspensions(ie soft parts, spiders etc). and that the alum coil would handle more power, way better suspension, and have better spl output then the copper coil. im not familiar with the alum coils never used them. anyone that has experience with aq's can chime in.

thanks in advance

maybe but im not sure... my guess would be 3 stiff spiders and a higher fs... I would still go the custom route though.
custom route is kew but im not trying to spen out the as$, just for reconing to a dual 1. yea id like to have more output but not about to pay a arm and a leg just for a recone. i dont even need the person that makes the recones to do it for me. i have that all taken care of

if you did it yourself it would prolly be the same price as one from aq depending on what parts you use...

yea i have a couple friends that know how to recone. im just wondering what a kit would cost.
you could go with an atomic apxx 18 recone... I just called randy for a quote and he said 180 shipped, for whatever you want on it. IDK if it would fit in the aq motor though... I would think it should.
Talk to @SPLaudio; for a recone. Stock AQ parts are junk. Plus, he can get you a recone with a 3" 8 layer so you'll never have to worry about the sub heating up too much.
hm.... i asked him before trying to get a ballpark price but he didnt reply to my IM.

sorry PM

My AQ HDC3 w/ alum coils were pretty beast. Handled 5k between the two with ease daily. Still have one of them in my closet, that I may use again soon.

what amp at .5ohm? I'd base your decision off power level. I've run copper and alum in numerous set ups and have never had a problem. AQ soft parts are as good as anything out there and priced very reasonable.

I do prefer the sound of the alum coils more, seem to have a tighter/punchier sound.
