HD Radio ?

In the past 3-4 months I have made the plunge back into Car audio. I was out of it for ........ ****, probably 9-10 years. In that amount of time I am amazed at the array of add on items for todays head units.

So I have the Alpine iDA-X001. I have the ipod hooked up and that suits me for the most part. I am curious how this "HD Radio," works. Are there separate HD stations?

In any event, what is the sound quality like.

I am also considering and added XM radio receiver in the future as my wife has XM in her car and i really like it. Just seems the thing is a little pricey.

Anyway, so whats the scoop on HD radio?
