HD radio skipping on Jensen VM9312HD

I like this unit in my sprinter van. When it is on HD radio the quality is great, but it skips backwards all the time. I'll be driving along or sitting at a light you here a song or some one talking then you here it skip back about 3 to 4 seconds and here it over again. It does this on all stations and doesn't matter whether the van is running or not, it does it repeatable and is annoying. If I had known HD radio I never would have gone done this path.

Is it possible it needs a firmware update? There is no USB port so how would one update the firmware?
