Having some BIG trouble...

This started today... i was driving my car then all of a suddon it just shut off on me. i put the car in neutral, started it up and drove again, few mins later it died again. No clue what the problem could be?!?! any ideas?

You need to hook it up to a code scanner to see if its throwing out any fault codes.

My Mitsubishi acted that same way, turned out it needed a new crank positioning sensor.

and if it was a bad battery/alternator why would it start back up? wouldn't the battery still be dead?

i'm no mechanic though. just asking.

when I worked at a parts store people would spend like 200 bucks trying to figure it out and still take it to the shop

or

you could pay say 100 for them to look at it and tell you what is wrong

if you think you can fix it do it,if not let them do it

It might be the alt or battery as stated earlier. Did it take a few minutes to start back up and did you have to crank it longer than normal?

crank sensor most likely.

it gets hot and heatsoaked and the sensor goes "open" (ie open circuit) because the metals expand inside when they get hot. it cools down a bit, metals condense a bit and the sensor works like it should and the car will start up, just to get the crank sensor warm again and "open" and the car dies.

you have a pretty "textbook" case.

go to autozone, pick up their tester, go through and find the crank sensor info (or just find engine speed) let the car idle until it dies, then quickly try to restart the car and watch the engine speed on the tester. if it reads 000 while the engine is cranking, you need a crank sensor.
