Hi all, I'm trying to install Boston Acoustics SX65 in the doors of my 2004 PT cruiser. It seems the door hole is just too big! I did have Pioneer TS-D161R's in there. THe trick to installing those was to use the "fork" style mounting tabs - the screw holding it was at the very edge of the hole in the door, and the very end of the "fork" and this left a small gap between speaker/mount. I had filled that gap with a gasket and some silicone RTV type stuff.
Now when I went to install Boston Acoustics SX65 - despite Crutchfield calling them "6 3/4" " and other sites as well - I find that at best using the included adaptor allows the 6" speakers to mount in a 6.5" mounting hole. It would never fit in a 6.75" hole such as I have. Actually while I only quickly measured it - I would even say that my hole is 7" in diameter.
So I'm off to construct a wood adaptor - which will probably be for the best anyways - I just hadn't planned on this.
Anyone else see similar with other speakers/cars?
