What 9mm?
Those Kimber custom targets are very nice.

Never shot a Kimber rifle before ... but some of them sure look nice.

ive got a taurus pt 99 and couldnt be happier with it for a range gun, nice easy trigger pull and really doesnt have much recoil that and i got a good deal on it when i bout it

im a fan of the .45 also.....nice powerful gun.....i dotn shoot all that much....but its something i enjoy....maybe now that i dont have the wife around i can finally get a gun of my own instead of using my dad's........

I'm a 1911 style nut man so my vote goes to .45acp, with 45 long colt pulling a close second for a pistol. Now when it comes to rifles my hands down favorite is my kimber custom 22/250 something about seeing the head pop off a ground hog at a couple hundred yards get's your blood flowing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

.45 ACP for fav round. KNOCKDOWN POWER! (Springfield Champion Stainless)

9mm for range (Sig P226, brother's Browning Hi-Power a close 2nd)

.454 Casull for big holes (Taurus Raging Bull 6" Black)

.45 acp, only because 10mm wasnt listed, i love my 1911's dont get me wrong, they are my babies. But of the rounds listed the .45 acp gets my vote, John Moses Browning is my hero.

and to the poster above me...

im not trying to be a jerk, but knockdown power is a myth...

Knockdown power is a myth, unless by that you meant % of one shot stops. Because the projectile exerts the same force (actually less depending on range), on what it hits, as it does into your hand in the form of recoil. I love my 1911's, but no way in hell is that recoil gonna knock me off my feet, dont get me wrong, i would go down, just not due to the sheer force of the bullet hitting me. However, in % of one shot stops, i beleive the leaders (excluding the big boys like .480 .454 .50AE and .500) are 10mm and .357 mag, edge slightly to 10mm.

I call BS //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif on that and will put in a short physics lesson:

The force of the projectile is the same as the force exerted on the cartridge prior to ejection, to be technical. Just a hair after the bullet leaves the barrel, the slide starts moving back. (notice how the pull of the recoil spring gets easier after the first .25-.5 inch) The force exerted on the cartridge is now applied to the slide, which has MUCH more mass than the bullet, and uses the spring to absorb most of the recoil. So, the force exerted on the bullet is greatly dissipated by the recoil spring and ejection of the casing. Ever wonder where the force comes to knock the empty case out?

Now on to impact:

When the bullet impacts, its force is concentrated on a single point. As the nose impacts, it slows down (transferring force) and then the back of the bullet catches up. Depending on bullet type, you get deformation or expansion/fragmentation. One bounces around in the body, the other send little chunks everywhere.

Now on to the actual thread subject:

9MM is good and fun! I shoot a Ruger P95 DC. My alltime fav is 7.92 tho...

When people say "Knock down power" they are ussually just refering to foot pound energy of a bullet. Its just lamens terms. And no a 45 wont knock you off your feet, it will make you fall but not make you air born

lol, that reminded me of Max Payne, with the guys going airborne from Desert Eagle shots...

I have a midget friend that would probably disagree, this is beside the point but he can also kick himself in the head //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/handclap.gif.0c301076f534e244f0460706894f19e0.gif

Gogo,

Your retort is a classic myth going around on a lot of gun boards right now as well, which one did you get it from? Or was a salesman trying to get you into the new 10mm whatever?

When I think of the term knock down power. I think how many shots it would take to drop someone or something. The less shots the more knock down power and vice versa. I never did really think it meant to actually knock something down. If that were the case then a 22 magnum has some helacious knock down power. I have knocked down many a bowling pins with my ruger 10/22 magnum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i just go by what i read, and what the folks tell me, although i must admit the argument about knock down power always intrigued me, i just mean to say, it isnt like the movies, your not gonna get tagged, and fly over a couch.

so this is bunk then?

*edit* by folks i mean my dad, and as a veteren he is the only person ive known who has actually had to rely on his weapon to defend his life, thats about the best opinion i have to go on. I will definately try to do some more research into the subject.
